Board to handle school administration in future: Akila

 

 The Education Ministry plans to establish a Board for the administration and management of schools, Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said. “Under the on-going education sector development reforms, it has been planned to establish School Administration Boards aiming to ensure a productive and qualitative process of administration and management of schools.

This will streamline the school administration and management process,” he said.

Once the School Administration Board is appointed, all decisions relating to school administration and management will be carried out through the board, the minister said.

“The School Administration Board will be responsible for the utilisation of financial allocations the school receives from the Education Ministry. The Grade One admission process will also be carried out through the board,” Kariyawasam said.

The minister said within two years, the Education Ministry expects to establish all School Administration Boards.He said the Education Ministry will keep key responsibilities, permitting the management of schools through these Boards.

He said in line with establishing the School Administration Board, the ministry is launching the ‘Education Management Information System ’ (EMIS) countrywide to ensure the smooth functioning of schools.

The web-based SBMS will allow the Education Ministry to transact with schools promptly. Moreover, the SBMS will be an easy tool for school administration bodies to provide a better service, the minister said.
