Bone marrow transplants at Cancer hospital soon

Arrangements have been made to commence bone marrow transplant surgeries at the Maharagama Cancer Hospital and Kandy General Hospital for the benefit of cancer patients, said Helth Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne.

The first phase of the new dental unit being constructed at Rs. 1,300 million attached to the Colombo National Hospital will be opened shortly. The second phase of the project is estimated at Rs. 1,500 million, Senaratne said.

According to Dr. Senaratne, the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital will be developed at Rs. 9,000 million and the Colombo National hospital will be developed as a fully fledged hospital. He expressed these views after distributing Rs. 200 million worth medical equipment among dental units.

Earlier patients required to travel abroad to obtained this surgery.

“Everything possible will be done to make sure that the people receive free and quality health services,” he added.
