Customs seizes kitchen sets imprinted with pictures of the Buddha

Sri Lanka Customs seized a consignment of 904 four piece kitchen apron sets with oven gloves and a pot holder on which pictures of The Buddha were printed.

The shipment from Thoothukudi Port in India was scheduled to be transshipped to Slovenia, Customs Media Spokesperson Dharmasena Kahandawa, told the Media at the Customs headquarters yesterday.

Kahandawa said Indian Customs will be informed about the seized consignment and added that measures will also be taken to stop the manufacture of similar goods with pictures printed disrespecting other religions.

He further said that customs officials are conducting further investigations.

The shipment arrived by SS St. John ark on November 28, 2016 and the goods were in the container No. JFSU0226912.
