Development Bill is not for creating super minister but to accelerate development: Vajira

The Development (Special Provisions) Bill is not designed to create a super minister. It is only to accelerate the country's development. The story about a super minister is a wrong interpretation given by the opposition to sling mud at the government and disrupt its development work, Home |Affairs Minister Vajira Aneywardena said.

He was addressing the media after opening the refurbished District Registrar's Office and circuit bungalow building in Vauvinya on December 21.

The minister said the phrase super minister was quite unwanted and should be withdrawn. Bills of this nature were approved from time to time to accelerate development. Earlier, the Colombo Plan and the Free Trade Zone Acts were brought in to speed up development.

Such acts should involve special powers to ensure speedy development, he said.

Parliamentarians Shivashakthi Anandan and K.K. Masthan, Vavuniya GA, M.B.R. Pushpakumara and DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon were also present.
