Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera this morning condemned in the strongest terms, the assassination of the Russian Ambassador to Turkey, Andrey Karlov
Minister Samaraweera said Sri Lanka considered the attack a ‘violation of the right of all diplomats to represent their nations peacefully around the world.’
‘Shocked by the assassination of Russia's ambassador to Turkey. Condolences to Ambassador Karlov's family, the government and people of Russia,’ the Foreign Minister tweeted.
‘We consider this a violation of the right of all diplomats to represent their nations peacefully, around the world.’
The Russian ambassador to Turkey was assassinated at an Ankara art gallery on Monday by a gunman who shouted "God is great!" and "Don't forget Aleppo, Don't forget Syria!", after assassinating the Andrey Karlov.
Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister also tweeted his condolences to the families of the victims in Berlin:
‘Saddened by violence at Christmas market in Berlin. SriLanka extends condolences to the family members of victims and people of Germany.’
