Joint Opposition (JO) parliamentarians Gamini Lokuge and Namal Rajapaksa yesterday called on Labour and Trade Union Relations Minister W.D.J. Senewiratne to discuss the Hambantota port labour dispute.
The parliamentarians told the minister that government and semi-government employees are facing many labour issues.
They said the employees at the Magampura Mahinda Rajapaksa Port, Mihin Lanka Airlines, Health Department, Sri Lanka Tea Research Institute, and Rubber Research Institute among others were facing many issues.
They requested the minister to take actions against politically motivated transfers and service termination of labour union representatives.
Secretary to Labour and Trade Union Relations Minister S.M. Gotabaya Jayaratne and Labour Commissioner General Chandani Amaratunga also participated.
