GMOA levells allegations at Malabe Neville Fernando Hospital over woman’s death

Serious allegations were levelled against the 'Malabe Neville Fernando Hospital with a death at the hospital on December 23 and demand Rs. 150,000 from the family of the dead, Government Medical Officers’ Association GMOA) Secretary Dr. Navin De Zoysa said.

Issuing a statement to the media on December 24, Dr. Zoysa said this hospital operates without the guidance of the Health ministry. Several allegations were levelled against the hospital in the past for patients’ deaths, he said. Dr. De Zoysa said the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) did not approve for this hospital.

According to Dr. Zoysa, nothing has been done and no one punished for misplacing rugger player Wasim Thajudin's bones. The latest death at the hospital on December 23 is a young women who married recently and was admitted to this hospital for a stomach surgery. She had died after the surgery.

The SLMC and the Health Ministry should conduct an immediate and proper investigation into the death to find out whether a surgery was actually required for her and what had happened after the surgery.

The police and the CID should conduct a proper investigation on the complaint made by her family, he said.
