Government committed to provide welfare for war heroes: President

The new Constitution does not leave national security vulnerable, President Maithripala Sirisena assured at a meeting with the Jathika Ranaviru Ekamuthuwa at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday.

The Jathika Ranaviru Ekamuthuwa headed by Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekara met the President to discuss the hardships war heroes are going through.

“I assure everyone that the new Constitution is in no way jeopardising the national security of the country. As Head of the Armed Forces, I shall always stand for our war heroes,” the President said.

The government is committed to assure war heroes’ welfare and is obliged to them, the President said.

The government has provisioned a pension for disabled soldiers who have service below 12 years and has allowed soldiers to come back to government service who retires after completion of 22 years of their service, the President said.

The representatives of war heroes said it was for the first time they are meeting the President.
