Examination Department sources revealed that the largest ever number of candidates in the history of the G.C.E. O/Level Examination will sit the examination this year.
Accordingly, nearly 700,000 candidates will sit for the G.C.E. O/ L Examination 2016, which commences today.
The examination under the new and old syllabus, would be held until December 17 at 5,669 examination centres with the participation of nearly 700,000 school and private candidates. The examination will be coordinated through 538 centres countrywide. Accordingly, 65,524 teachers have been deployed for examination duties centralizing these coordinating centres, Examinations Commissioner General W.M.N.J. Pushpakumara said.
The Commissioner General stressed that tough action would be taken against candidates who violate examination rules. Under these regulations, a five year examination ban would be imposed on candidates who use high-tech devices such as smart phones, adding machines, smart watches and communication devices.
