Public organisations in the Kilinochchi district will stage a protest on Monday opposite the Kilinochchi District Secretariat against the proposed construction of prefabricated houses.
After the war, under the resettlement programme, many war victims were provided permanent houses with funds provided by the government as well as non-governmental organisations.
However, about 13,000 families have been living in the Killinochchi district for the past seven years without permanent houses.
Meanwhile, the Ministry Resettlement Ministry has formulated a housing project to construct 65,000 prefabricated houses. Residents and public organisations in Kilinochchi had informed the authorities about the unsuitability of building prefabricated houses.
The public organisations requested for houses under a permanent housing scheme.
They objected to the construction of prefabricated houses.
