Minister says will probe Prisons Hospital doctor maintaining close contacts with VIPs

Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said that he will initiate a probe into the questionable conduct of a doctor at the Prisons Hospital who is said to be maintaining close contacts with VIPs admitted to the institution.

“The Prisons Hospital belongs to the Prisons Department. However, medical doctors to the institution are provided by the Health Ministry.

It has been brought to my notice that one doctor at the hospital maintains close contacts with VIPs who are transferred to the hospital after being remanded on court orders. He is said to be instrumental in getting these people transferred to the hospital. I have received a report in this regard and will take stern action if the person is found guilty,” Dr. Senaratne said.

The minister said so after opening a new outlet of the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation in Gampaha on Saturday.

Addressing the gathering, the minister said the transfer of some VIPs to the Prisons Hospital after being arrested and remanded was highly questionable.
