An audit inquiry has revealed that 910 “Ranbima, Swarnabhoomi, Isurubhoomi and Jayaboomi” land deeds signed by former Presidents’ had been kept at Galenbindunawewa Divisional Secretariat for over 34 years without conferring to farmers in Galenbindunawewa.
The report of the audit inquiry conducted by the Auditor General’s Department had been sent to the Secretary of Lands Ministry. Among the land deeds were 844 “Jayabhoomi” titles signed by the President in 1982, 55 “Swarnabhoomi” titles to be given in 1982, two “Ranbima” titles to be given in 1997 and nine “Isurubhoomi” titles to be given in 2001.
The former Divisional Secretariats who served in Galenbindunawewa Divisional Secretariat had given those lands to their close associates by forging documents with the support of ‘Janapada’ officers.
The people in the area complain that no legal action has been taken against the responsible officials even though eight months have elapsed since the audit inquiry report.
