The Presidential Commission Investigating Serious Acts of Fraud, Corruption, Abuse of Power, State Resources and Privileges (PRECIFAC) has completed investigations into 171 cases coming under its mandate.
PRECIFAC will hand over six reports to President Maithripala Sirisena in the coming week providing details on six cases on which it has completed investigations.
The PRECIFAC Spokesman told the Daily News yesterday that three reports are ready for submission while another three reports are to be given final touch ups. He however declined to name the six cases on which reports would be handed over next week, stating that those would be disclosed only after submission to the President. He said reports on another nine cases were nearing completion. The Commission of Inquiry has already presented six reports to the President on completed investigations including that of the Negombo Lagoon Development project, non-payment of money to the ITN for advertisements and misuse of State lands in Mahiyanganaya.
“The PRECIFAC has 357 complaints coming under its mandate. Investigations pertaining to 36 complaints are proceeding, while we have completed investigations into 171 complaints.
The balance 150 complaints is pending investigation by the Police Unit of the Commission,” he said.
The Spokesman said the PRECIFAC had received a total of 1,600 petitions as of March 2016, but 1,265 of them were beyond the Commission’s mandate. Another 43 petitions received by the Commission of Inquiry had been referred to other investigative bodies such as the FCID.
