Rajitha wants to increase age limit of children admitted to Lady Ridgway

Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne has proposed to increase the age limit of children who are eligible to receive treatment at Lady Ridgway Hospital (LRH) from 14 to 16, Health Ministry sources said.

According to the sources, the upper age limit of children who can receive in-house treatment at the LRH is 14. Minister Dr.Senaratne proposed to increase the limit to 16.

He was addressing the induction of the President of Sri Lanka Collage of Pediatricians in Colombo recently.

Minister Dr. Senaratne said the Health Ministry is dedicated to ensure the health of children of Sri Lanka. The Pediatricians should work with dedication to ensure the health of children. It is important for a healthy future generation, he said.

Minister Dr. Senaratne admired the service rendered by Dr. Lak Kumara Fernando to control dengue epidemic in Pakistan, which further strengthened the relationship between Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

He is an expert on treating dengue. He saved funds for the Health Ministry by intervening to accelerate the construction of a new building at Negombo hospital.

It was estimated to cost Rs. 9 billion, but completed within 52 days at a cost of Rs. 500 million, the minister said.
