Saboteur hurls stones at bus critically injuring Corporal

 

A Corporal travelling in a Kandy bound SLTB bus from Jaffna on home leave sustained injuries in the head when a saboteur hurled stones at the bus at a place between Ikirigollewa and Rambawa in Medawachchiya on December 2, the day private buses went on strike, is lying in a critical condition at the ICU of the Anuradhapura Hospital New Surgical Ward.

He was identified as Corporal G.P.S. Samaraweera of Nawalapitiya attached to an Army National Corps Camp at Kankesanthurai. The incident had occurred around 11.00 p.m. and the Corporal who was seated in the corner of his seat beside a window had fallen unconscious as one of the stones aimed at the bus struck his head, said Medawachchiya Police.

The bus driver had taken steps to rush the injured Corporal to the Mihintale Hospital and the authorities there had transferred him to the Anuradhapura Hospital as his condition was critical.

A hospital spokesman said serious damage had been caused to the Corporal’s skull causing internal haemorrhage in the head.

Following surgery, he has been transferred to the Neuro Surgical ICU and is presently under life support.

Medawachchiya Police investigating the attack on the SLTB bus, said one of the culprits involved in stoning the bus has been identified and his arrest is imminent.
