The government is to intensify rural infrastructural development activities in the Thihagoda Divisional Secretariat Division.
Planning Director attached to the Thihagoda Divisional Secretatiat said a high priority was given to expeditious renovation and reconstruction of undeveloped rural roads, dilapidated irrigation projects,water supply projects and social welfare activities.
In addition, 12 more development programmes were initiated under the Southern zonal infrastructural development scheme.
Rural road development, provision of necessary furniture and equipment for early childhood development centres, dhamma schools and voluntary organizations are included in them. According to Thihagoda Divisional Secretary Umesha Matarage, a total of nearly 50 rural infrastructural development projects are underway in the Thihagoda Divisional Secretariat Division for the current year. Of them, over 10 road improvement projects have been completed.
At present, work on the rest of the projects are nearing completion.
Construction and reconstruction of road side walls, ditches, culverts and concretion of dilapidated rural roads are included in these road renovation programmes.
Work on most of these development projects have been completed at the moment and the rest are nearing completion.
They too are expected to be completed prior to end of this year, project officials said.
A sum of Rs. 500,000 has been allocated for the development of each of these Grama Niladari areas. A total of nearly Rs. 30 million has been set apart for the same project. Necessary funds have been allocated by the Economic Development Ministry.
