The Court of Appeal has issued an interim order halting Mahinda Rajapaksa, his ministers, deputy ministers, and state ministers from continuing to function in their respective portfolios. Further hearing of the petition will be taken up again on the 12th of December
The petitioners claim that Mahinda Rajapaksa is not legally entitled to hold office of Prime Minister under the 19th Amendment of the Constitution. The order was issued after the court of appeal considering a Quo Warranto writ petition filed by 122 MPs including UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.
