The Budget proposal of the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council(MC) for 2019, presented by Mayor Chandanalal Karunaratne was passed with a majority of 22 votes on December 21.
Out of 23 council members, 22 members voted in favour while SLPP Councillor Faleel abstained from voting. At the last Municipal Council election, 13 members from the UNP, six from the SLPP, 2 from the SLFP and 2 from the CWC were elected to the Council.
