The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning of thunderstorms accompanied by severe lightning and heavy rain for the next few (around 6) hours. The areas under the radar are Sabaragamuwa, Western and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.
Temporarily strong gusty winds up to 70-80 kmph are expected during thundershowers. Department advises the public to seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees while avoiding open areas such as paddy fields, tea plantations and open water bodies during thunderstorms.
