A decade of Suneth Malinga Lokuhewa

Renowned film director and teledrama maker Suneth Malinga Lokuhewa recently marked 10 years in his career in the entertainment sector. He has made six films and three teledramas during this span.

His passion for film and teledrama making comes from his mother. He had studied psychology in England and had obtained a diploma on the subject. Later he had penned five books on psychology and positive thinking. He ventured into the cinema industry by following the filmmaking course conducted by the National Film Corporation. His first work was a short film named ‘Mathibramaya’ but it was his first film, the first Sri Lankan film centered on the theme of cricket which won him fame and fortune. ‘Sinhawalokanaya’ was an instant hit and paved the way to more filmmaking. ‘Spandanaya’ and ‘Nidahase Piya D S’ followed. Three more films ‘Aakarsha’, ‘Surangana Lovin Evith’ and ‘Thunvarak Thuna’ are due to be screened.

Another noteworthy face about his career is that he directed the documentary ‘Freedom Speaks’ on behalf of the National Security Unit as an answer to Channel 4 UK’s ‘Sri Lanka Killing Fields’.

He has not limited his talents to directing only. The scripts of the three films of his which are due to be released are also penned by him. He has already written more film scripts and hopes to make movies out of them soon.
