Four suspects including a woman who had dug up an archaeological site with the intention of excavating ancient relics, were nabbed by the Kekirawa Police on Monday afternoon.
According to Police, the suspects including the female suspect were arrested at about 2.30 pm on Monday on a tip off, while they were excavating at the archaeological site in Madaatugama, in Dunumadalaawa in the Kekirawa Police Division.
The equipment used by the suspects for the excavation was seized by Police at the time of the arrest.
The suspects including the female were identified by police as individuals in the age groups 27 and 56 who are residents of Madaatugama, Hingula, Awissawella, and Kegalle.
All the suspects were to be produced before the Magistrate Court in Kekirawa yesterday by the Kekirawa Police.
