Kurunegala Acting Magistrate Anoma Jayawardena fined eleven people a sum of Rs. 1,450,000 when they pleaded guilty of distilling and selling illegal liquor during the past few days of the festive season, recently.
The suspects are residents of Gokarella and Wellawa in the Kurunegala district. Kurunegala Excise officers conducted these raids. Assistant Excise Commissioner of the North Western Province Roy Fernando prosecuted.
The officers seized about 40 bottles of illegal liquor from their possession.
