Lankan busted with cigarettes worth Rs.1.9 millions at BIA

Customs officers at the arrival lounge of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) arrested a Sri Lankan with 34, 800 illegal foreign cigarette sticks to the value of Rs. 1.9 million this morning.

These cigarettes had been packed in 174 cartons in his traveling bag, Customs media division said.

The 41-year-old suspect is a resident of Pannala. He had arrived in the country from Dubai by flight No FZ 557.

The cigarettes stock has been declared forfeit and a penalty of Rs 50,000/- had been imposed on the suspect by the customs after a formal inquiry.

Further investigations carried out by the Customs.
