Moratuwa University to get a Vehicle and Powertrain Laboratory via Austria’s Raiffeisen Bank funding

Latest Cabinet announcements outlined that it has been proposed to construct a Vehicle and Powertrain Laboratory at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Moratuwa (UOM), with a view to facilitating the emerging needs of the local automobile industry, establishing a state of the art and automotive laboratory, producing engineers well equipped with modern knowledge and conducting the research, survey and development capabilities related to the automotive environmental issues.

Accordingly, the Raiffeisen Bank International AG of Austria has given its concurrence to provide concessional financing for this project under a soft loan scheme. Thus the proposal made by Rauff Hakeem, the Minister of City Planning, Water Supply and Higher Education, to obtain a detailed project proposal from M/s AVL List GmbH who is the sole Austrian Manufacturer and supplier operative in this field, was approved by the Cabinet.

The company profile of AVL List GmbH highlights that it is the world’s largest independent company for development, simulation and testing technology of power trains (hybrid, combustion engines, transmission, electric drive, batteries and software) for passenger cars, trucks and large engines.
