The Education Ministry has taken measures to strengthen the policy of “Nearest School is the best school (NSBS)” concept, Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said.
The Minister was opening a new centre for the NSBS programme recently at the Education Ministry.
The NSBS project was initiated under a concept of the Education Minister in 2016. All students are given equal and the best opportunities for education by the NSBS concept through the closest school from students’ homes.
Under the NSBS concept, which planned to end in 2020, moves will be taken to develop 9,064 schools countrywide. Of them 282 are national schools while the balance, 8,782 are provincial schools. Besides, steps will be taken to improve the facilities of all Teacher Training Institutions, National Education Institutes.
The education Ministry will carry out 16,185 projects under the NSBS programme at a cost of Rs 64,950 million. This is considered as the biggest ever project carried out for the development of the education sector.
