Speaker Karu Jayasuriya called for a common agenda to successfully confront the key challenges facing the country in the New Year.
Issuing a New Year message, the Speaker yesterday said that all stakeholder groups must come together to work out a common agenda to face the main challenges before the country in 2019.
He added that such a common agenda would lay the foundation for a victorious and prosperous country for the future generations.
“We welcome 2019, in a context that we have reinforced democracy, supremacy of law and national, religious and political reconciliation.
“We have started a fresh journey with a new lease of life. Rifts between different opinions are a characteristic of a live society. We were lucky to ultimately resolve those problems in a civilized, disciplined and peaceful manner.
“It is my opinion that we can spearhead, with courage and confidence, a collective effort to come up with a common policy in the New Year.
I invite all Sri Lankans to be part of that ambitious journey,” the Speaker said in his New Year message.
