Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne yesterday ordered the release of MP Arjuna Ranatunga who was arrested over a case of assault at Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) last year.
When the case was taken up before the Colombo Chief Magistrate yesterday, the Colombo Crime Division informed court that the Attorney General had given instructions that no action was to be taken against MP Ranatunga.
The Gampaha district MP had allegedly trespassed into the CPC premises in Dematagoda on October 23, 2018, and caused minor injuries to a person during the conflict that ignited following his entry into the premises. Ranatunga is currently on bail.
