Justice and Prison Reforms Minister Thalatha Athukorala condemned the media reports misquoted the position of Prime Minister and the Cabinet of Ministers on the temporary ban of all kind of garments covering the entire body.
A memorandum in this regard was presented to the cabinet of ministers by Minister Athukorala last week.
Issuing a press release she said that none of the cabinet ministers nor the Prime Minister rejected the memorandum but made a request to inform the decision to the Muslim priests.
Meanwhile President Maithripala Sirisena under the Emergency Law Regulation took steps to ban all kind of face coverings that hinder the identification of an individual with effect from today.
