Minister Haleem together with other Muslim leaders and lawyers presented the first draft of a proposed Madrasa Education Act to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremainshe today.
According to the document which was shared by Minister of Economic Policy and Public Distribution Harsha de Silva, the Act proposes to provide for the Madrasa Education based on the principals of the Sunnah’s of Islam. The Act also proposes the setting up of a Madrasa Education Board, an establishment of a supervision control and registration of Madrasa as well as training institutes.
“Once law is debated, amended and passed in parliament, curricula will be set and children will be taught regular subjects and their religion,” Minister Harsha de Silva said. “This is a good discussion, an important one. I am glad to be the platform for the same.”
