Arrested for drug possession
Anuradhapura Police, acting on a tip-off, took into custody a suspect possessing 9.7 grams of heroin near to a bus stand in Anuradhapura, recently.
The suspect is a 41-year-old female resident of Thalawa. She was produced at the Anuradhapura Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Anuradhapura Police are investigating.
Held for possessing heroin
A suspect was arrested with 2.1 grams of heroin during a raid conducted in Kahatapitiya, Moragahahena, recently. The raid was conducted on a tip-off.
The suspect has been identified as a 52-year-old resident of Kahatapitiya. He was produced at the Horana Magistrate's Court on Monday. Investigations are continuing.
Arrested with drugs
Matara Police, acting on a tip-off, took into custody five suspects possessing 2.63 grams of heroin and two other intoxicants when a van was checked by the police at the Godagama exit on the Southern Expressway, last Sunday.
The suspects are residents of Dehiwala, Karandeniya, and Hakmana. They were produced at the Matara Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Matara Police are continuing investigations.
Held for alleged homicide
A 38-year-old man has allegedly been killed with a hoe by his father over a dispute that erupted last Sunday at Elpitiya, Rakwana.
The victim had been rushed to the Kahawatta Hospital, where he had succumbed to his injuries. He was identified as Gajarupage Samantha, a resident of Godakawela.
The body of the deceased is being kept at the Kahawatta Hospital and his father has been taken into custody. Police are investigating.
Accident claims life
A man died when his motorcycle collided with a three-wheeler near the Mee Ella Church, on the Hakmana – Walasmulla road.
The victim was rushed to the Hakmana Hospital, where he had succumbed to his injuries.
He was identified as Ranasinghage Piyadasa, a 63-year-old resident of Suriyawewa. His body is being kept at the Hakmana Hospital.
The three-wheeler driver has been arrested. Investigations are continuing.
Motorcyclist dies in accident
A man died when his motorcycle collided with a lorry near the Palugamuwa junction in Dummalasuriya, recently.
The victim was rushed to the Kuliyapitiya Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The victim was identified as Senarath Pathirannehelage Thusitha Kumara, a 34-year-old resident of Alawwa. The body is being kept at the Kuliyapitiya Hospital.
The lorry driver has been arrested. Police are investigating.
One dead, three injured in accident
One person died and three others were injured when a car veered off the road near the fourth-mile post on the Kayts – Jaffna road.
The victims were rushed to the Jaffna Hospital, where one of them succumbed to his injuries upon admission.
The deceased has been identified as Murugaiyya Muhundaraj, a 33-year-old resident of Jaffna. His body is being been kept at the Jaffna Hospital.
The driver of the car has been arrested. Kayts Police are continuing investigations.
Man commits suicide
A person committed suicide by jumping in front of a train plying to Colombo last Sunday. The incident took place in Kondawil, Kopai. The deceased has been identified as Marisalin Sakayaneshan, a 49-year-old resident of Chunnakam. His body is being kept at the Jaffna Hospital.
Kopai Police are investigating.
Man drowns in canal
A man drowned after falling into a canal, recently, in Dimbulana, Welikanda.
The victim has been identified as A.M Sudubanda, a 60-year-old resident of Welikanda. His body is being kept at the Welikanda Hospital.
Investigations are continuing.
