The former Pothuhera Police OIC and five other police officers, who were arrested in connection with the murder of soldier Don Tissa Wijeweera of Wadakada, were acquitted by Kurunegala High Court Judge Menaka Wijesundara on Wednesday.
Wijeweera had been shot dead at Pothuhera, Wadakada. The suspects had been indicted by the Attorney-General on January 7, 2009. Attorney Sudath Wijewickrama, who appeared on behalf of the defence, said the prosecution had not proven the charges against his clients beyond reasonable doubt and requested the court to dismiss the case without calling for any more defence witnesses.
State Counsel Charaka Dharmasiri prosecuted.
