Strengthen intelligence says former Commanders

The committee appointed by Opposition Leader to look into Easter Sunday attacks in Colombo and outskirts has stressed the need to strengthen intelligence services. The report was also handed over to President Maithripala Sirisena by the former Commanders yesterday.

The committee members comprising former Commanders of the Army, Navy and Air Force also stressed that there should be a comprehensive mechanism to rehabilitate the terrorists and counter violent extremism.

The Opposition Leader on April 28 appointed this committee and its report was handed over to the Opposition Leader at his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha on Thursday.

The report said that the intelligence officials’ scope has expanded in an unprecedented manner with the development of technology and they should have freedom to discharge their duty without hindrance.
