Two remanded over false rumors of poisoned water

Two suspects, who had spread false rumors that poison had been mixed into the water supply of Bloemendal area, were ordered to be remand till May 13 by Colombo Additional Magistrate Lochana Abeywickrama.
 
The Modara Police informed the court that they had spread false rumors that poison had been mixed into the water supply by using the microphone in Bloemendal mosque.
 
The police also stated that they recorded statements from the chief maulavi in Bloemendal mosque. The police filed this case under the section 56 of the International Covenant on Civil and Politician Act, section 120 of the Penal Code and section 98 of the police ordinance.
 
In this occasion, the Magistrate observed that the Magistrate court has no jurisdiction to grant bail.
 
The police and the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) affirmed that this was a false alarm and that no poison has been mixed to the water supply.
