Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne yesterday remanded a university student arrested for posting false news on Facebook stating that President Maithripala Sirisena’s flight en route to China had crashed, till today.
When the case was taken up before the Magistrate, police informed the court that the suspect is a resident of Piliyandala and a student of the Sri Jayawardenepura University in Kotte.
President’s Counsel Shavendra Fernando, appearing on behalf of the suspect, pleaded his client be granted bail. President’s Counsel Fernando also said that the charges were filed against the suspect under Section 32 of the Immediate Regulations Act.
