Over Rs. 660 million compensated under the “Suraksha” insurance

A sum of Rs 664 million has been compensated under the “Suraksha” insurance policy of students from December 1st, 2018 to July 18th.

The Suraksha insurance policy was implemented covering all students around 4.5 million in the entire country. From its inception in 2017 the Education Ministry has received 14,003 insurance claims applications from schoolchildren during the last eight months period, Education Ministry statistics revealed.  

All students between age 5 to 21 not only in government schools but also in private and international schools and Pirivenas also are covered by the Suraksha insurance policy.      

The Suraksha Insurance scheme, which was launched by the Education Ministry in October 2017, has already proved to be extremely beneficial for the children. The scheme was introduced as a gift of Free Medical and Personal Accident Cover open to all schoolchildren and is facilitated by a reputed insurance company, which offers the service through its extensive network.

“The daily allowance granted in case of hospitalization has been increased from Rs. 1000 to Rs. 3000. The coverage provided for external treatments has been doubled to Rs. 20,000” the Education Ministry sources said.

Under the Suraksha Insurance policy a student receives a sum of Rs 200,000 for receiving in ward treatment from a government or a private hospital while Rs 20,000 is offered for OPD treatments. Besides, the full amount is paid for receiving treatment for a critical ailment. When a demise of a parent, a sum of Rs 200,000 is paid.
