Suspect detained under PTA remanded

Galle Chief Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela remanded a suspect who had been detained in police custody for 90 days on court order when he was produced before him last week.

The suspect identified as Mohamed Sanus Mohamed Ramsan of Katugoda, Galle, was arrested for alleged links with terrorists connected to the Easter Sunday bombings. Galle Division Crime Investigation Unit OIC CI Udaya Seneviratne submitting a report on the suspect told the court that following their investigations it was found that the suspect had no links with ISIS or the National Thowheed Jamath (NTJ).

The Chief Inspector said that the suspect was arrested with 1,108 CDs, a mobile phone, a laptop computer and a dongle in his possession and the productions had been sent to the Government Analyst. The prosecution officer requested that the suspect be remanded as they had not yet received the report and the legal instructions from the Attorney General.

The police had produced the suspect under the PTA and obtained the detention order.
