A teachers’ union called “Podu Jana Guru Sangamaya” and two other teachers’ unions have called a one day teacher strike today making several demands including rectifying teachers’ salary anomalies.
However, 27 teachers’ trade unions including the Ceylon Teachers Union” and the Ceylon Teachers’ Service Union are not participating in the trade union action.
According to Ceylon Teachers’ Service Union Chairman Mahinda jayasinghe, 27 teacher unions are not taking part in the trade union action and their members will report for duty as usual. Besides, Principals’ trade unions are also not supporting any strike action.
Education Ministry sources said that the teaching and learning process of the school system will not be affected by this trade union action as most of the teachers have confirmed that they would report for duty today.
“He requested parents to send children to schools since the schools will function as usual,” he added.
