Sri Lankan students, who participate in 16th International Mathematic and Science Olympiad (IMSO 2019) could show the Sri Lankan colurs by obtaining many medals. Accordingly students contest under Science category received a gold medal, a silver medal and three bronze medals while in the mathematic category received five bronze medals. Athsara Fernando of Ananda College Colombo obtained the Gold medal in the Science category.
The 16th IMSO 2019 was held from November 26th to December 1st in Vietnam with the participation of students worldwide. A team consisting of 12 students represent Sri Lanka at the IMSO this year.
The IMSO is an annual international contest in Maths and Science in English for elementary and secondary school students under the age of 13 worldwide. The objective is to help students develop their levels of maths and science as well as promoting creativity, research and academic development.
This year’s exam, themed “Thinking – Innovation – Outstanding Skills," drew the participation of 719 contestants and hundreds of experts, teachers and observers from 24 countries and territories.
Education, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Dullas Allahapperuma expressed his gratitude to the wining team of IMSO when the team met him at the Education Ministry on Thursday.
