Matale Municipal Council employees recently staged a protest in front of the Matale clock tower, demanding police to arrest two suspects connected to the assault of a fellow employee.
The assault was said to have occurred after a group of municipal council employees had clashed with another group. Two municipal council employees and their sons have been admitted to hospital following the incident.
The municipal council employees said that they would continue the protest until the perpetrators are brought to book. Traffic on the A9 route was also congested owing to the protest.
Matale Police OIC Chanaka de Silva said the incident is still being investigated.
