Opposition gains political mileage by instilling fear in people – Chamal

Mahaweli Development, Agriculture and Trade Minister and Defence State Minister Chamal Rajapaksa said the opposition was gaining political mileage by instilling fear in the people.

He was speaking at a press briefing in Tissamaharama recently.

The Minister said the Hambantota seaport and the Mattala airport are catalysts of the development and those who criticised them are ignorant.

“Far-sighted policies of then Rajapaksa regime brought in a new era and a period of transition to Hambantota and also to other districts including Moneragala, Galle, and Matara,” the Minister said. He said Hambantota is muti-cultural, multi-racial and multi-religious where people live in harmony. “When the tsunami devastated the country in 2004, everybody helped one another without any discrimination,” he said. “Mega development schemes launched during the Mahinda Rajapaksa era have come to a standstill making many thousands jobless and now we have to start from scratch” the Minister said.
