Submitting a B-report before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court on December 17, the Criminal Investigations Department mentioned in the report that former Minister Rajitha Senaratne had allegedly threatened the White Van driver and another person, who called themselves the owner and the driver of the white van.
When the matter was taken up before the court on December 17, the Criminal Investigations Department had further mentioned in the B-report that former Minister Rajitha Senaratne had allegedly threatened the suspects.
Meanwhile, the two people arrested in connection with making controversial statements about the “White Van” incident during a press briefing conducted by former Minister Rajitha Senaratne, have been remanded till December 27.
The two suspects have been identified as Sarath Kumara and Athula Sanjaya Madanayake.
“On October 22,2019 Athula Sanjeewa Madanayake had revealed information about robberies and arrests allegedly carried out by him using the white van. Athula Sanjeewa Madanayake had revealed these details while having a drink with his brother.
“A few days later, we went to former Minister Rajitha Senaratne’s house in Colombo to discuss the matter. During the discussion, former Minister Senaratne allegedly promised to provide jobs for us in America and also promised to send our families there too. The Minister had also allegedly promised to pay money for us,” the suspects said in their statements.
The suspects had revealed that the former Minister allegedly instructed them to change their appearance.
The two suspects who made this controversial statement about the “White Van” incident during a media briefing prior to the Presidential election have allegedly told the CID that they had done so after they were promised Rs.2 million, it was further revealed.
