Sri Lankan Think Tank INSSSL invited for the top Global Think Tank Summit in Rio de Janeiro Brazil

Director General Asanga Abeyagoonasekera from the Institute of National Security Studies Sri Lanka (INSSSL) was invited for the Global Think Tank Summit 2019 in Rio de Janeiro Brazil to Chair the plenary panel and speak on ‘Thinking about the Future of Think Tanks and Public Policy in an Age of Insecurity and Instability’ The panel included scholars from Poland, Mongolia, Uruguay, Belgrade and USA. Chairing the panel Director-General Abeyagoonasekera said “In an age of insecurity and instability Think Tank work should be given more priority and attention to improving policymaking. Unfortunately, Think Tank policy briefs and recommendations and important research work go unheard, they should be taken more seriously by policymakers. In Sri Lanka, we would have prevented the terror attack on Easter Sunday if policymakers took some of our hard work at INSSSL seriously, especially Presidents Monthly Threat Forecast (MTF) on 2019 January cautioning serious threat from extremist group to the national security of Sri Lanka”. More than 150 think tanks from 55 nations participated for the summit and from South Asia only two think tanks participated which is Observer Research Foundation(ORF) a leading New Delhi based think tank and INSSSL of Sri Lanka. The summit took place on December 11-13, 2019, co-hosted and co-organized by the Fundação Getúlio Vargas(FGV) Brazil and the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program, University of Pennsylvania.
