As at yesterday (31st) 16 people suspected to have been infected with coronavirus were under surveillance at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID/IDH), a Health Ministry spokesman said.
According to the spokesman, one patient has already been confirmed positive so far while eight of them (4 Foreigners and 4 Sri Lankans) are warded at the NIID.
Two patients are warded at the PGH Rathnapura, five at the National Hospital Kandy and one at TH Karapitiya.
“The only confirmed Coronavirus infected person was reported in Sri Lanka on January 27 (Monday). The patient was a Chinese national who came to Sri Lanka as a tourist.
She has been admitted to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID) and her health condition has improved since then,” he said.
As of January 30, the Novel coronavirus has been reported from 18 countries with nearly 10,000 confirmed cases and 213 deaths. There have been 82 confirmed cases outside China with no deaths. India reported its first confirmed case from Kerala.
