Four suspects, disguised as CID officers, were arrested on Thursday for allegedly extorting money from a woman, the Police Media Unit said.
The suspects had called a woman in Pituwalgoda, Yakkala claiming that she has threats from the underworld. They had asked her to pay Rs 100,000 to them to defend her.
The woman had lodged a complaint on this matter at the Gampaha Crimes Division. The Police said the suspects are 37, 40 and 43 years old and are residents in Balangoda, Aththanagalle, Gampaha and Wathuragama.
The suspects were to be produced before the Gampaha Magistrate’s Court today.
