For Muslims, Eid is an opportunity to reflect on the 30 days spent in fasting and to recommit to values of gratitude, compassion, and generosity, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said in a message issued to mark Eid.
The message: “These values and rich traditions have been guidance for strengthening peace, harmony and reconciliation with the Sinhala Buddhist majority, Hindu & Christian and Muslim people of this
country.
This past month, our country endured challenges and trials that put us all through tests. Considering the shortcomings of the current climate, I urge all celebrating to enjoy this day within the confines of the restrictions placed for their own safety and the safety of all else. In keeping with the theme of gratitude that this day shares, I would like to wholeheartedly extend my gratitude towards the Government, Health Authorities, Tri-Forces, Police officers, and all other front liners who are striving continuously to serve the Nation with utmost dedication despite the tough conditions.”
