The Cabinet of Ministers has taken a decision to ensure job security of private sector employees in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Foreign Relations, Skills Development and Employment and Labour Ministry Secretary Sarath Abeygunawardena said the government has devised a mechanism through which employees and employers can discuss employee issues with Labour Department officials and find solutions.
Private sector employees can make complaints to the Labour Department with regard to any injustice faced by them.
“They can make complaints to the regional, district labour offices and the Department directly. The Ministry officials in discussion with trade unions and the Employer's Federation have ensured job security of private sector employees,” he said.
He said the department has received a number of complaints from private sector employees with regard to their job security and these issues will be solved in discussion with trade unions and employers.
