The United National Party Working Committee has confirmed the suspension of 99 members who obtained nominations for the upcoming election from other political parties.
Former Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and other senior figures of the United National Party are among the members whose party membership has been suspended while they have been given seven days to show cause.
Furthermore, UNP Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe has told the Working Committee that the UNP would not enter into agreements to form a National Government.
The Committee also ratified the appointment of eight new committee members who were appointed on May 22 this year.
