A total of 1,217 persons in Western Province who were not wearing face masks in public were sent for 14 days of quarantine.
Police launched an operation in Colombo from yesterday to nab people who fail to wear masks in public.
The health authorities recommended wearing a mask in public as curfew regulations were eased and day-to-day life gradually normalised to tackle the spread of Covid-19.
Those who fail to wear a mask will have to undergo 14-day self quarantine.
The police will record details of the people caught without masks and paste a quarantine notice on their residences. DIG Tennakoon said that the police will take action against bus drivers and conductors who violate health guidelines as well.
