2011 World Cup Final : Statement to be recorded from Aravinda De Silva

The Special Investigation Division of the Ministry of Sports has summoned former Sri Lanka Cricket Captain Aravinda De Silva to record a statement with regard to the match- fixing allegations in connection to the 2011 Cricket World Cup final.

De Silva, who was the Chairman of the National Selection Committee during the 2011 World Cup, has reportedly been summoned to appear before the Special Investigation Division at 2.30 pm tomorrow (30).

On 18 June, former Minister of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage made a shocking revelation that the 2011 Cricket World Cup final between Sri Lanka and India was fixed.

The allegation created an uproar among cricketers and politicians alike.

The Special Investigation Division of the Ministry of Sports then recorded a statement from Aluthgamage at his office in Nawalapitiya on 24 June in this regard.

The former Parliamentarian, who was the Minister of Sports at the time of the tournament, later clarified that he had only suspected that the match had been fixed.

Meanwhile, an official attached to the Special Investigation Division of the Ministry of Sports said they intend to complete the investigation into the allegations and submit the report to the Attorney General for legal advice. (Newswire)
