A special investigation has been launched on the directive of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) on the alleged assault of an autistic teenager in Aluthgama.
Police in a statement says Police officers had attempted to investigate the boy who had stepped out on a bicycle without a face mask at a time when the islandwide Police curfew was in effect.
The Police issuing a press release today said the officers had not used excessive force or assaulted the child, but had only attempted to control him.
Following much outrage and calls for justice for the boy on social media, an investigation was launched by the Deputy IGP for the Kalutara District on the conduct of the Police officers involved in the incident.
Two separate investigations by the Department of Police are underway into the incident.
